The Mexican Starring: Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Bob Balaban, JK Simmons. Director: Gore Verbinski The Mexican is romantic and action comedy which has interesting twists and turns in a complicated plot. Jerry Well Bach (Brad Pitt) is a reluctant bagman. He has been given two alternatives from the two important people in the life--his mob boss and his girl friend, Samantha (Julia Roberts). His mob boss tells him to go to Mexico and get the Mexican, an old pistol which has a legend attached to it or be killed. His girlfriend, Samantha, tells him to quit his job and go with her for promised holiday in Las Vegas or breakup with her. Valuing his life over his relationship with Samantha, Jerry decide to go to Mexico on his mission and leaves a furious Samantha behind. The plots then takes two paths --- one following Jerry and other Samantha. Jerry goes to Mexico and retrieves the famous pistol, but bringing it back is not so easy. Waylaid on the way by numerous problems, Jerry begins to understand the curse, the pistol carries and its underlying relationship to his own love story. Meanwhile, Samantha is kidnapped by a hit man (James Gadolfini), on her way to Las Vegas, who holds her as a hostage to get the pistol Samantha and hit man have a unique relationship as kidnapper and kidnapped. Samantha learns from her kidnapper the meaning of life and realises what Jerry really means to her. Though the plot has action and gory scenes, it still makes you laugh at the way the two protagonists face their predicament. Does the pistol has curse and how it is really to Jerry and Samantha? The legend of pistol us told is told in interesting flashback with the colour and movement of movie cameras of decades ago. Acting by Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts is good. The setting of the Mexcian lifestyle is realistic. All in all, a movie which is entertaining even while romantic. Story: Good Acting: Good Direction: Good Cinematography: Good Overall Rating: Good |
