The Mummy Returns Starring: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Patricia Velasquez. Director: Stephen Sommers For those of you who liked The Mummy, The Mummy Returns is nothing but a more elaborate and lavish version of the first part. Rick O' Conner (Brendan Fraser) is back with the gang, but this time he is married to Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) along with a super intelligent eight years old son Alex (Freddie Boath). The movie opened with usual escaped by the O' Conner's to the dark mysterious labyrinths of an old Egyption Temple to discover the legendary bracelet of the Scorpion King (The Rock) who, according to the legend, sold his soul to Anubis of immortality. The bracelet eventually lands on the wrist of Alex who has to make it to a ritual temple in Egypt within a week if he wants to take his soul. Also on the lookout of bracelet is Imphotep’s (John Hannah) dangerous girlfriend, Anak-Su-Namun (Patricia Velasquez) who has been resurrected from the death to bring the Scorpion King life and bring about next apocalyps. So, they kidnap Alex and leave it up to O' Conner along with his wife and, of course, the trusted sidekick (Oded Faher) and Jonathan (Arnold Vosloo) to save Alex and the world. Thus begins the expected yet exhilarating fight between good and evil with loads of grand sets, more elaborate fight scenes and bigger badder villains. Although the sequel has nothing to do with with its predecessor except for the fact that the characters are the same, the movie is a commendable effort in itself. The Pygmy mummies are truly an asset to the movie with their slapstick humor, which amazingly makes you laugh might that fact that they happen to be slicing and dicing people!! All in all, two thumbs way way up for The Mummy Returns! Story: Average Acting: Good Direction: Good Cinematography: Good Overall Rating: Excellent |
